Callaway FT-5 Neutral Driver (SHAFT TYPE: Fujikura E150) Review

Callaway FT-5 Neutral Driver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The golf world is about more merciless than the fashion industry in terms of how fast things move, how fast things fall out of style, and how fast technology and advances progress.

Take this FT-5 driver. In 2008 it cost twice as much as what it costs today on Amazon.Today in 2009 the top priced spot being taken over by Callaway's newest driver the FT-9.What does this mean for you? Well that if you can wait a year, you can wind up with a fantastic driver for half price.

I've been hitting the FT-5 for over a year now and I can report that its a wonderful driver.Golf though is a complex sport....do I still slice? Yes.Do I still hook it sometimes? Yes.That's more a matter of my skill limitations than of the club itself which is just beautiful to look at address and it gives a very comfortable "ping" when you smash a ball perfect. It does go far, it is very forgiving, and it helps me play my best game.

Overall, I can't say enough great things about this club.If you must have the latest, you can pay twice as much for the FT-9 or if you want the square look FT-i clubs but overall, I think this FT-5 is great. It has multimetal technology, carbon fiber, weighting in the perimeter to make it very stable. It's not infinitely customizable like some of the newest clubs out there but for me, it works just fine - its a golf club and a big one at that.

I think this puppy will stay in my bag until it falls apart, 5-7 years, or until something really radical comes out that makes me fall in love again (I must say, when these 460cc....big....drivers came out, I fell in love and what made me upgrade).

Product Description:
Callaway FT-5 Driver with Graphite Shaft The new FT-5 Driver is the latest evolution in clubhead design, utilizing Callaway's revolutionary Fusion Technology. A massive 50 grams of discretionary weight has been created using a Carbon Fiber Body - creating the OptiFit Weighting System that produces the perfect center of gravity position for any particular player. The larger, hotter CT/VFT Titanium cup face is designed to the legal limit, resulting in increased ball speed, distance and forgiveness - even on miss-hits.Features: The carbon composite body is lighter than titanium, this construction improves stability and distance CT/VFT titanium cup face is Callaway's largest, hottest face for increased ball speed on shots hit all over the face The 460cc head design is incorporated with a longer, wider and hotter face for more confidence at address, a higher MOI and increased ball speed for longer, straighter drives Fusion Technology creates an unprecedented 50 grams of discretionary weight which is strategically positioned for a high Moment of Inertia and precise lateral location of the center of gravity. This provides exceptional stability on off-center hits, while enabling ball flight customization for optimal individual performance. The 25-gram weight located at the rear of the driver lowers the CG for optimal trajectory.

Product Description:
The TaylorMade r7 Quad 425 driver offers a broader scope of performance possibilities than the original r7 Quad driver, with the ability to steer the ball higher, longer, and straighter than the earlier model. The r7 Quad 425 is distinguished by the company's TaylorMade Launch Control (TLC) technology, which gives golfers the freedom to alter the driver's launch conditions by redistributing 28 grams of discretionary weight in a variety of ways. While the average driver delivers a single set of launch conditions, the r7 Quad offers six, letting you choose the one that generates the best combination of distance, accuracy, and workability. The system is built around a quartet of widely spaced ports--called TLC ports--that are located in the sole of the club head. TaylorMade's specialists then developed differently weighted TLC cartridges that can be installed in the ports and removed again. Adding individual cartridges effectively shifts the center of gravity toward the front, back, heel, or toe of the club, depending on your personal performance needs.
Compared to the original r7 Quad, the r7 425 boasts 17 percent more movable weight, a seven percent increase in the Moment of Inertia (MOI), a 45 percent larger span of horizontal CG movement, and a 13 percent increase in backspin rate adjustment, among other improvements. All of the enhancements mean that the r7 425 is more forgiving of average swings and promotes a wider change in shot shaping and trajectory. Plus, the r7 425 is engineered to deliver a larger draw bias when the cartridges are configured to promote a draw, along with a higher flight angle when the cartridges are configured to promote a high-neutral trajectory. The variety of improvements helps golfers hit the ball or higher or lower, or helps low- and mid-handicap players work the ball to the right by varying degrees up to 13 yards.
Other details include TaylorMade's Inverted Cone Technology (ICT), which provides a larger clubface area for higher ball velocity and greater distance, even on mis-hits; Ultra-Thin-Wall Technology, which saves critical weight and permits the clubhead walls to be 0.6mm thin, 25 percent thinner than the walls of the r7 Quad; and an RE*AX shaft that reduces ovaling in the mid-section while promoting greater stability, shot consistency, and clubhead speed.
Specifications:

    Length: Standard, 45 Inches
    Material: Titanium
    Clubhead Size: 400cc to 460cc
    Shaft Type: Graphite Shaft
    Head Size: 425 cc

Product Description:
TaylorMade continues its long-running standard of excellence with the men's r7 460 driver. The driver is distinguished by its extra-large 460cc clubhead, which offers an extremely high Moment of Inertia (MOI) that guarantees tremendous forgiveness and long, straight drives even on off-center hits. This makes the driver incredibly easy to hit, especially when combined with the driver's widely spaced TLC ports, which make allowances for mis-hits toward the heel and toe. Golfers will also love the driver's Movable Weight Technology, which allows players to change the r7 460's feel by installing differently weighted TLC cartridges in the pair of TLC ports. Installing the 14-gram cartridge in the toe and the 2-gram cartridge in the heel promotes a neutral, or straight, ball flight, while installing the 14-gram cartridge in the heel and the 2-gram cartridge in the toe creates a right-to-left draw that changes the trajectory by up to 15 yards. It's the perfect club for golfers who want a little extra versatility on the course without having to buy multiple drivers.
The r7 460 also employs TaylorMade's renowned Inverted Cone Technology (ICT), which increases the size of the COR zone--the portion of the clubface that delivers consistently higher ball velocity, and thus consistently longer drives. This third generation of ICT lets TaylorMade produce drivers whose clubfaces are subject to much tighter tolerances from one to the next, yet don't exceed the "speed limit" imposed by the USGA. Other details include a RE*AX shaft that reduces ovaling in the mid-section to promote greater stability, shot consistency, and clubhead speed; Ultra-Thin Wall Technology that allows for extremely thin yet strong clubhead walls; an exceptionally low and deep CG that promotes long carries and phenomenal distance; and a large, beautifully shaped footprint that looks strong and powerful behind the ball. The r7 460 is backed by a two-year warranty.

I've been eyeing these for years, and finally got one.OK, so with my 18 handicap, I still have trouble with consistency on the driver, but the fades are less extreme, and I'm actually hitting a slight draw now.Even when I mis-hit, I seem to be in less trouble.great driver!

Product Description:
TaylorMade continues its long-running standard of excellence with the men's r7 Draw 460 driver. The driver is distinguished by the company's Draw-Weighted Technology, which concentrates the weight in the back heel area, thereby encouraging a faster clubface rotation through impact to promote a right-to-left ball flight. The r7 Draw is specifically designed for players who need as much help as they can get to hit the ball straighter, higher, and longer, particularly players looking to gain extra distance by turning their chronic fades into a draw. The driver also accommodates golfers who want to set themselves up with shorter approach shots by turning a severe banana ball into a manageable fade. The Draw-Weighted Technology works by moving the clubhead's CG closer to the shaft. This speeds the rotation of the clubhead during the forward swing in the same way that a spinning figure skater speeds the rotation of her body by pulling her arms inward. As a result, the golfer has an easier time squaring the clubface at impact, thereby imparting either a draw spin or reduced slice spin.
The r7 Draw also employs TaylorMade's renowned Inverted Cone Technology (ICT), which increases the size of the COR zone--the portion of the clubface that delivers consistently higher ball velocity and greater average distance. The extra-large 460cc clubhead, meanwhile, offers an extremely high Moment of Inertia (MOI) that guarantees tremendous forgiveness and long, straight drives even on off-center hits. Finally, the r7 Draw includes a 55-gram RE*AX soft-tipped graphite shaft that feels great and promotes a high launch angle. The driver is backed by a two-year warranty. The r7 Draw employs TaylorMade's renowned Inverted Cone Technology (ICT), which increases the size of the COR zone.
